August 2nd 1973

“Trev came up in the morning + in the afternoon we went to play tennis, then paddling in Monk’s Brook”

Monk’s Brook is a tributary of the (more major) Itchen river in Hampshire. It travels in and around Chandlers Ford and Eastleigh.

I’ve glanced into its waters a few times on recent trips back to blighty. I CERTAINLY can’t imagine ever having paddled in it at any time of my life. Dirty and full of rubbish.

Obviously my personal criteria for health and safety  in 1973 was substantially lower than it is now?
