“Got 2 easter presents – scoffed ’em both”
“presents” = “chocolate eggs” = “manna from heaven for a 15-year-old boy with a sweet tooth'”
Was it just me or did the chocolate in Easter eggs always taste a zillion times better than regular bars of chocolate?
To be honest I couldn’t get enough of Easter egg chocolate in those days, which was why the pair of eggs I got today disappeared off the planet apparently within 24 hours?!
An incredible waste of resources though, all that packaging around what was ‘just’ chocolate. Cardboard outers, cardboard inserts, shrinkwrap, plastic mouldings and tin foil. I wonder how much I have personally contributed to the landfills of the world? Looking at myself in the mirror lately I would guess at “quite a bit”.
My Mum won an Easter egg at bingo once. I think I was about 8 or 9 years old at the time. It was about 3 feet tall, wrapped in a huge bow and a pretty box. Massive it was. It sat on a shelf in our “front room” (the one reserved for when we had guests over, and/or special occasions) for the longest time, just taunting the bejeeebus out of me. Somewhat disappointingly, when we all tore into it, the taste of the chocolate was horrible. I think Dad ended up smashing it to bits and taking the pieces to work to share with his colleagues. Poor buggers.
